Dianna made her face a mask of complete surprise. “You don’t say! Well, then. You just became more appealing, Mr. Overstreet.” She laughed when she saw him choose his color for the pony and then yawned, settling her head into his shoulder. “A nap sounds good, I think I’ll do that.” She turned her head back to the picture of the pony. “Now don’t you let the Green Goblin bully you, you understand?” She laughed at her own corniness and shook her head. “I definitely think I need a nap.” She let her eyes close then and she was quickly lulled to sleep by the steady movement of his arm as he colored his page.
She was only awakened when the pilot’s voice rang out over the speakers asking the passenger’s to please take note of the flashing “seat belt” sign and what to do in case of an emergency. She yawned and blinked her tired eyes a few times before she realized that it meant she was supposed to put on her seat belt, so she did as she was told, pulling the belt around her body and fastening it.
And then they began the descend into Tennessee and her eyes were alight with excitement, the sleep completely forgotten. She looked over at Chord with her wide smile. “We’re here! Are you excited? I am!” she said, giggling like a little girl. She reached for his hand and wove it through her own, giving his a small squeeze.
By the time the pilot’s voice blasted over the speakers, he was working on a third picture, filling in the Green Goblin’s mask. He quickly put his colors back in the box and closed his book, placing them back in Dianna’s bag before pulling the seat belt across his lap and clicking it in place. “Hello, Sleeping Beauty. Did you have a nice nap?” he asked her as she lifted her head from his shoulder.
He smiled at her and leaned over to kiss her cheek, giving her hand a squeeze in return, the he began to play with her fingers. “I am definitely excited… And hungry. Before we get to the house, we should pick up some lunch, yeah?”
Once they were safely on the ground and the “seat belt” sign ceased flashing, he unbuckled his belt and stood up to grab his bag and hang it on his shoulder. After he and Dianna exited the plane, they picked up their luggage and made their way through the terminal to find his sister waiting for them by the doors. “Summer!” he called as they made their way over to her.

She smiled, watching as he focused on coloring Spiderman. After a few moments, she turned back to her own picture, getting lost in the color after color as she filled up her whole page. She stopped and smiled down at her finished product, looking over at his as he presented it to her. “I think you should definitely hang it on the fridge.” She laughed and then held up her own. “What do you think? Is it a worthy fridge companion for your Spiderman?”
She looked up at the in-flight movie, surprised to find that a new one had already been started. “Are we seriously halfway there already? How did that even happen?” She laughed once, disbelieving, and shook her head. “I would say one more picture and then we’ll be there, but I’m kind of colored out.”
She leaned her head against his shoulder and looked up at the screen in front of her. “Since when did Failure to Launch become the unofficial in-flight movie? I’ve seen it at least ten times. But I happen to think Matthew McConaughey is sexy. And people who do Matthew McConaughey impressions are kind of sexy too.”
He gave an an approving nod as he examined her picture. “They can fight crime together, too,” he said with a grin as he settled back into his seat, crossing his arms. “All colored out? Take a nap then. I’ll color you a pretty picture of a pony. Or maybe one of the Green Goblin throwing his pumpkin grenades.” He quickly pressed his lips to the top her of head as he reached over and grabbed the My Little Pony coloring book from her lap, flipping to a clean page.
After grabbing a color out of the box, he looked up to the screen and watched it for a moment. “Failure to Launch… Isn’t that about a guy who’s, like, thirty years old, and he’s still living in his parents’ house?” He glanced down at her, a small smile playing at the corner of his lips. “And you know what?” he asked with raised eyebrows. “It just so happens that I can do Matthew McConaughey impressions!”
She smiled at him because he’d been thinking about it; putting thought into what he wanted to do and the things he wanted to show her. And it meant a lot that he wanted to share his childhood with her. It meant probably more than he knew. She leaned over to press a quick kiss against his cheek before she reached over and pulled her carry on bag onto her lap.
Pulling out a Spiderman coloring book, she presented it to him. “So maybe it’s a little more Sam than Chord, but I thought you might appreciate it. It has thick lines so it’ll be harder to color outside them.” She laughed and then pulled out a big box of crayons and set it between them, pulling out her own coloring book. “It was between the Lion King and My Little Pony. So I got both. I figured we could share the Lion King.”
She smiled at him and flipped to a clean page, pulling out a color and dragged it along the line, outlining her pony before coloring it in. She looked over at him. “Aren’t you going to color? It was your idea. Or do you just want to color a pony and not Spiderman?” she joked.
“I hope you brought a the sixty-four box of crayons.” He grinned and took the Spiderman coloring book from her, placing it in his own lap. He flipped through it, stopping on a crayon-free picture of Spiderman swinging through New York. He gave her a nod of approval. “Great, because I color like a two-year-old,” he joked as he reach over for the crayon box. He scanned through the box after pushing it open then laid eyes on a red crayon.
He pulled it out, but stopped as he watched Dianna outline her pony. He gave her a small smile when she looked over to him then turned his gaze towards his own book and began coloring Spiderman’s suit. Once he was done with the suit, he moved onto the buildings and then the sky until his whole page was filled with color.
After returning his crayons to the box, he helped up the piece of paper to admire his work. “Looks pretty good, don’t you think?” he asked, glancing over to her. “I’ll think I’ll put this on the fridge at home.”
Dianna took her ticket from him and shoulder bumped him lightly when she noticed his small yawn. “You’re kinda cute when you’re tired. I guess we’re even. You aren’t going to fall asleep on me, are you? I bought coloring books I’m sure you’ll love.”
She laughed as she handed over her ticket to the woman at the counter and collected her bags on the other side, waiting for Chord to do the same. When he rejoined her, she could really feel the excited butterflies in her stomach as they got to the gate. In just a few hours, they’d be in Tennessee. She honestly thought it’d never get there.
The plane was almost completely packed already by the time they got into the cabin. She found their seats easily, slipping her carry on into the luggage area and settling down into her seat. She looked over at Chord, who was settling down into his own seat, a big excited smile on her face. “I have a feeling once we get there, I won’t want to come back.”
Chord joined her as he was slipping his beanie on, pushing it down in the back. He picked up their luggage and took it where it needed to go on their way to the gate. A smile spread across his lips as he glanced down at her, readjusting his bag on his shoulder. “I’ll try not to fall asleep, I can’t make you any promises.”
Once they reached their seats, he pushed his bag into the space above before plopping down into the seat beside Dianna. He shifted a little, making himself comfortable, his smile widening as he looked over to her. “You’re gonna love it. I have a whole list of places I want to take you.”
Dianna turned to him with a smile. “Not even a little bit,” she joked, sticking her tongue out at him and hugging her carry on bag tighter to her chest as he began to drive through the streets out of her neighborhood. She was glad they left even earlier than they planned because they highway was at a stand still.
So Dianna reached over to turn up the radio and she turned to Chord as she sang loudly, laughing as she did so. Almost a full song played before they started to move again, until finally they were getting off at the exit for LAX.
She should have figured when they got out of the car, they were going to be swarmed by paps. She pulled her sunglasses down low and went around to gather their bags and stayed close to Chord’s side. She fought to keep a pleasant look on her face, but the only thing she wanted now was to be on the plane and on the way to Tennessee.
She stayed close by his side as they ignored all the flashes and people calling their names and retreated into the building. It wasn’t much better, really. A few people approached them asking for pictures and autographs, which they were more than gracious for.
But finally, Dianna pulled Chord to the side and sighed loudly. “I just want to get on the plane and color and watch the stupid flight movie and just be on our way.” She smiled at him and pressed her lips to his in a quick kiss. She looked down at the time on her phone and then looked back up at him. “We can start heading to the gate now, I think it’s safe. Are you excited?” she asked him as they started on their way.
Chord pulled up in an empty parking spot and cut the engine before hoping out to grab their bags. Seeing the immediate flashing of cameras, he sighed quietly and readjusted his beanie before slipping on a pair of his glasses. After slinging his carry on bag over his shoulder, he pulled out his suitcase and one of Dianna’s bags, tugging them behind him as the made their way through the terminal.
They were stopped by a few people who were brave enough to approach them and he gave gave them a smile and a nod when they asked for picture. Once they posed for the picture and quickly signed the fans’ notebooks, Chord led Dianna to the baggage check. He chuckled when she gave him a loud sigh. “You’re kind of cute when you’re annoyed.”
They walked together towards the gate and he pulled out their tickets, handing Dianna her’s. “I am very excited,” he said before letting a small yawn escape his lips.
The weekend had finally arrived and Dianna was excited. And nervous. But mostly excited. She had her bags all piled against the door and she was waiting for Chord to come pick her up so they could go to the airport together. She had her small carry on bag with coloring books and crayons like he’d asked. She smiled every time she thought about it.
She checked her phone again for the time and realized she was about half an hour ahead of schedule. That really wasn’t surprising considering she’d packed way in advance. She was anxious.
Chord must have known, because not five minutes later did she hear the sound of his knocking against her door. A smile broke out across her face and she opened it and launched herself into his arms. “Hey, handsome!” she giggled, pressing her lips against his.
She unwrapped herself from him and then grabbed a bag. “Let’s get a move on,” she said as she made her way towards his idling car.
After loading his bags into the trunk on the car, Chord did a quick walk through the his apartment, making sure he hadn’t forgotten anything. He stood at the door and went through his mental check list, counting off things on his fingers before deciding he was ready to go. He pulled the door shut behind him, locking it up then made his way to his car. He drove a little faster than necessary to Dianna’s. Probably because he was a little overwhelmed with excitement. He hadn’t gotten much sleep the night before; he felt like a little kid waiting for Christmas morning.
Once he reached her door, he knocked lightly then began drumming his fingers on his leg while he waited. The door swung open and Dianna was in his arms shortly after; she had sent him staggering back a step as she caught him off guard. He gave her a tight squeeze and kissed her back before leaning in the doorway to grab a few of her bags.
He grabbed two bags, one in each hand, and followed her out to the car. After laying her bags on top of his, he went back to get the rest of her stuff. He loaded the back of his car since the trunk had become full then settled in the driver’s seat. He had just finished buckling his seat belt when Dianna joined him. “Ready,” he asked with a smile, once she had gotten in.

Dianna narrowed her eyes at him and then shot a pointed look down at her attire. “Does it look like I’m planning on going anywhere tonight?” She shook her head and pressed her lips against his, and then pulled back to smile at him mention of Tennessee.
“I am excited! I’ve even packed most of the way. Which is saying something because I hate packing.” She laughed and let her arms drop from around his waist to his hand and she lead him back into the bedroom. She scooted in beside him and curled into his side. She placed her head on his chest and sighed contentedly.
“I like sleeping over,” she confessed in a small voice. “I just like falling asleep with you.” She smiled tiredly and blinked heavily a few times before letting them fall closed. She tucked herself in closer to him and felt herself being to slip into sleep, letting the sound of his heartbeat against her ear lull her.
He raised his eyebrows, feigning surprise and gave her a nod of approval. “You packed early? Wow! That’s new.” He grinned down at her then followed behind her as she tugged him along to his room. He crawled in after her, snaking an arm around her waist after letting out a quiet yawn.
Chord smiled tiredly as he watched her fall asleep in his arms. “I love you,” he whispered before pressing his lips to her forehead. He laid his head back into the pillow and closed his eyes, his mind wondering to the future. The trip to Tennessee. Spending time with his family and, most importantly, Dianna. He thought of the little things he and his family did together. And now Dianna was going to be apart of that. And it felt…. Right.
It took a while, but eventually sleep found him and he drifted off into peaceful slumber.

My real name is Chord Overstreet. I actually got my name because my dad is in the music business as a songwriter. I was the third one in my family born, and there are three notes in a chord, so that’s how they came up with my name.
